time capsule #1
our first date.

Pizzédélic, Then a ‘Pit Stop’
On the evening of March 25th, 2022, I took you out on our first date. We went to Pizzédélic, a restaurant on Monkland, which would go on to become a tradition for us.
After the restaurant, the plan was to go back to my home. ‘Inconveniently’, I had to stop by my sister’s apartment first, to get something for the cats. When we arrived, I surprised you with the real plans: a romantic night at my sister’s apartment, just the two of us.
Leah’s Write-Up
Ordered the Alfredo pasta 10/10, will ordered pepperoni pizza and we shared the home fries 8/10, we also each had a glass of lovely rose and cheered to love. Rate the restaurant 10/10. Service was great, will paid. He tipped the waitress 20$ I don’t know exactly how much the bill was, but it was a generous tip.
Surprised me, I thought we were originally going over to his parents house but we ended up going to his sisters. Petals on the floor and bed, flowers: red, blue pink and white roses in a vase on the table and double stuff Oreo cookies (which was so thoughtful, because I mentioned it was my favorite kind)and chips ahoy. On the table there were candles and red wine with glasses. (He thought since I told him I preferred white, that he shouldn’t have gotten red, but it was perfect, romantic). Genuinely didn’t know this would be the surprise. When we were heading to the restaurant however (his mom drove us there), he said “Leah’s coming over, okay?” And his mom smiled and said “okay”.. I didn’t quite know what that meant but I knew something was up. Lovely setting, and lovely surprise. So thoughtful and creative. I really enjoyed having the entire house to ourselves for a day, showed me what it would be like moving in with him… and it was incredible. He even bought me a toothbrush, how thoughtful.
I love him, it’s different, because it’s so much more pleasurable when you love the person. Cried, thought of sad things but they were tears of joy, because in that moment i was so overwhelmingly happy. He makes me happy. *music playing in the background while he kisses me everywhere*, surreal experience. Slept in the big bed, cuddles and kisses. Slept in then ordered McDonald’s. will bought me a pack of cigs then I went home. Means of transportation: his mother drove us to the restaurant, we took an Uber to his sister’s place, and an Uber back home. Rate date overall: 10/10, incredible first date. Memorable. So happy.
My Write-Up
My first date with Leah.. Not only was it a first date with her, but the first real date I’d been on in years. I was excited, but nervous. For one, I struggled to come up with an exciting idea that could be coordinated so quickly & that doesn’t involve anything outdoors (was still too cold). It was to be a surprise for her. I felt a bit nervous that my plan started with going for dinner, because that is literally so obvious and unoriginal, and a few days prior we had already briefly made mention of how we should go for dinner some time.
But anyways, despite settling on the night starting with us going out for dinner, I was committed to figuring out something more than that, something that’s at least slightly surprising. The stars aligned perfectly, because upon speaking to my sister on the phone about it, she let me know she was going ip north for the weekend, and that I was free to have Leah over at her apartment. It’d funnily enough be my first time at the apartment myself!
From there, it was time to plan how I was going to make this ‘surprise’ be more than just a place where we’d go after our date (and hopefully she’d stay the night). I planned to get flowers, wine, oreos, bring a bunch of candles from home (as well as my colored lightbulbs) with the hope of creating a nice cute romantic vibe.
The day of, I was nervous. I was kind of uneasy with the fact that the first part of our night was going to be a dinner, because I knew how obvious and NOT a surprise that was. But anyways, in the early afternoon, I packed up my bag pack with clothes, candles, etc., and my mom was kind enough to drive me to the apartment, as well as stop by the flower shop with me. I am very happy with the flowers I got: 2 red roses and I believe 1 pink one & 1 white one (and perhaps a blue one?). I got an extra red flower to use for rose pedals around the apartment, and the flower shop lady was nice enough to give me a bunch of pink rose pedals as well. Oh, and I got a vase!
My mom dropped me off at the apartment, which my sister & Thomas had already left earlier in the day to yo up north. They left it tidy, which was greatly appreciated. I put the flowers down on the table, then went to the SAQ and to the dep to get the wine & the oreos, respectively. Ended up also getting Leah an extra toothbrush as well as other snacks at the dep. Fortunately, the apartment is literally in a perfect location, with the flower shop, SAQ & dep all just around the corner.
Got back to the apartment and sprung into action. First off I spent way too much time making the couches, the bed in the bedroom, etc look perfect (despite them already being tidy). Then I decided where to place the candles. Then, I spent a solid 45 mins (and no, I don’t regret it) dispersing the red and pink rose pedals across the floor of the apartment, making sure the red and pink pedals were evenly distributed, that a path to the different places we’d spend time in was formed, and that it all just looked right & natural. Then, I organized the table near the entry way with the flowers, a platter of oreos & chocolate chip cookies, and of course, the wine (with 2 clean wine glasses). Then I replaced some of the bulbs around the apartment with my red ones.
By then, it was early evening, and I used the little bit of extra time I had (Leah was getting ready) to light the candles and just do a walk-through to see how everything looked & did some minor ‘touch-ups’.
I then got dresse— AND I REALIZED I LEFT MY DRESS SHIRT IN MY MOM’S CAR! I was pretty disappointed because the tshirt I had on was mediocre at best, and I had picked a button down shirt for the dinner. I was literally going to Uber back to my house and then to pick up Leah, but my mom was kind enough to drop it off, which was just too kind of her. I think she was just excited for me to be going on this date. Luckily, the delay wasn’t really a delay, as Leah was still finishing getting ready. I put on the shirt, fixed up my hair, and my mom stuck around for those 10 mins and offered to pick Leah up and drop us off at the restaurant, which once again was extremely kind of my mom to do.
We picked Leah up. She looked beautiful. As she always does. But I felt, I don’t know, butterflies in my stomach, it was an indescribable magical feeling. We went for dinner, and despite all my nerves going into it, the conversation was able to flow very naturally. I had an amazing time with her. We had some wine with our food (I had pizza and she had pasta), and we stayed at the restaurant for about an hour or so.
Then it was time to execute on my surprise. I had told Leah that after the dinner, we’d go back to my house, which she’d already been to, and that I just had a very small surprise waiting for her back there. But oh, “unfortunately, my sister being at the cottage and her cat being at my house, we need to stop by my sister’s apartment to get something for the cat first”. I pulled this off credibly (or at least I think so)… We pull up to the apartment, and I tell her to wait in the apartment lobby as I “get the stuff”. Oh, also, as a part of my cover, I told Leah my sister and her boyfriend were still at the apartment with some friends, hence why I asked her to just stay in the downstairs lobby.
I went up to “get the cat stuff”, and by “cat stuff” I meant lighting the candles! I then came back down and told her my sister would be taking a few minutes and to just come up to introduce herself… And it worked! I really think my surprise worked, because Leah didn’t seem suspicious at all!
So we walked to the door to the dim, romantic candle-lit apartment with flowers and rose pedals and all that jazz I talked about earlier. She loved it. It took her a minute or two to fully process it all (further showing that my execution of the surprise seemed to have worked!). I showed her around and pointed out all the details that I probably didn’t need to. She was happy, as was I. I was so happy.
While this was the last place we went to that night, in a sense, the night had just begun. We spent the next several hours drinking wine, kissing, listening to music, cuddling, eating cookies, until falling asleep in each other’s arms until drifting to sleep around sunrise. The next morning was just as lovely, and we got to experience a glimpse of what it would will be like to live together.
